The Local Scope – Directory and Publication Guidelines
About these guidelines
The Local Scope is a local directory and media project operated by Kordian Pach, a sole trader based in Raunds, Northamptonshire, trading as The Local Scope by Crodo Marketing Kordian Pach. In these guidelines, “we”, “us” and “The Local Scope” refer to Kordian Pach trading as The Local Scope by Kordian Pach.
We welcome submissions from businesses, event organisers, residents and people who know of places worth sharing. Inclusion is reviewed by our editorial team; submitting something does not guarantee publication.
We currently cover North Northamptonshire only; we may extend our coverage in future. A business must be based in, or serve customers in, North Northamptonshire. An event or attraction must take place or be located there.
These guidelines apply to the business directory, the events directory, Things to Do and sponsored content. They sit alongside our Privacy Policy.
Business directory
A basic listing is free for every eligible local business, and we will never charge for it. It contains basic information about the business. It does not include a homepage banner, a brand story or sponsor acknowledgements.
This includes one-person businesses, sole traders and freelancers, who can choose a business listing or a Local Entrepreneur profile (see below). Startups and businesses going through a difficult period are equally welcome. We do not want an inability to pay for advertising to exclude a suitable local business from the directory.
Paid options, such as the Founding Sponsor package, are always optional. They add promotion, which is always labelled; they are not needed to be listed. We will explain any charge before it applies; we will never issue an unexpected invoice.
Local Entrepreneur profiles
The directory has two kinds of entry: business listings and Local Entrepreneur profiles. A Local Entrepreneur profile is for a person who works locally on their own account, such as a maker, freelancer, tutor or tradesperson. We do not publish a home address; the profile shows only the town or village.
Keeping a listing current
A listing stays online for 12 months at a time. Seven days before that period ends, we email the listing owner a link to confirm that the details are still correct. If nobody confirms, the listing is hidden from the site. The owner can restore it with the same link for 90 days; after that, we may delete it.
Accuracy, qualifications and badges
Businesses are responsible for providing accurate descriptions, contact details and images they have permission to use. We may edit a submission for clarity or ask for corrections before publishing it.
Some details are declared by the business itself, including service tags, badges such as “Independent Business” or “Family-run”, registrations such as “Gas Safe registered”, and accessibility information. The business confirms that these statements are true. A business in a regulated trade must hold any registration, licence or insurance the law requires. We may check a claim, for example against the Gas Safe Register, and remove any claim we cannot verify.
A listing is not a recommendation or endorsement. Readers should make their own checks before hiring a business, particularly for gas, electrical and building work.
How paid and editorial content is labelled
- Ad marks a listing or placement that has been paid for.
- Featured marks an editorial choice. It cannot be bought.
- Sponsored articles and posts are clearly labelled as paid.
Founding Sponsor package
Subject to availability, the first-year Founding Sponsor package costs £200 (we are not VAT registered, so no VAT is added) and includes:
- a business directory listing;
- one calendar month of homepage banner placement;
- one article telling the story of the business or brand;
- identification as a sponsor; and
- at least three named acknowledgements in our publications or group updates during the 12-month package.
Homepage banner months are allocated in the order in which paid packages are confirmed. We will tell each sponsor their scheduled month before they pay. We will only accept a package when a banner month is available within its 12-month term. Banner placement does not guarantee a particular number of views, clicks or customers.
We develop the brand story with the business, but retain the final editorial decision about its wording and publication. The business may request corrections of factual errors. Payment does not purchase a favourable review, influence over unrelated coverage or a guarantee that every submitted claim will be published. The article and any related promotional post will clearly disclose the paid relationship.
We will confirm the article schedule, banner materials and payment terms with the sponsor before work begins. We will explain any renewal offer before the first year ends; the package will not renew automatically.
Payment and cancellation
Payment is made in advance through the payment options provided on our website. Card and other supported online payments are processed securely by Stripe using Stripe payment links. We do not process or store payment card details ourselves.
Once a payment has been successfully completed, Stripe sends the customer a payment confirmation and receipt using the contact details provided during the payment process. Payment processing is subject to Stripe’s own terms and privacy practices.
Where PayPal is offered as an alternative payment method, the payment is processed by PayPal under its applicable terms.
Work starts once payment is received.
As our paid packages are business-to-business (B2B) services, payments are non-refundable once purchased. If a sponsor chooses to cancel their package early, we will remove their promotional content upon request, but no refund will be issued for the remaining term.
Supporting The Local Scope
Anyone may choose to “buy us a coffee” to support our work. This is voluntary and does not buy a listing, advertisement, article, favourable coverage or influence over editorial decisions. We will name an individual supporter publicly only with their permission. The Local Scope does not present this support as a charitable donation or offer Gift Aid.
Events and Things to Do
Submitting a local event to our events directory is free. We welcome events that may be interesting or useful to the local community. People may also suggest local attractions or places missing from Things to Do. Adding an eligible attraction is free.
Event organisers and people making submissions should provide accurate, current information and have permission to share any images or other material. An organiser remains responsible for their event, including its arrangements and any changes or cancellations. Inclusion in either directory is not an endorsement by The Local Scope.
Events
An event must take place in, or be clearly relevant to, the area we cover. Online events are accepted only when they are run by a local organiser. We do not publish private events, recruitment for multi-level marketing schemes, or events that are mainly a sales pitch.
The organiser must update or cancel the event through our update link if anything changes. We may mark an event as cancelled or remove it if we learn that it is not going ahead. Events are removed from the site automatically once they have finished.
Labels such as “Family-friendly”, “Dog-friendly”, “Bikers welcome” or “Free entry” are provided by the organiser.
Things to Do
Our team compiles some Things to Do entries from information the place itself has published, such as its website, and from other public sources. We show when an entry was last checked. Opening hours and prices can change, so readers should check with the place before visiting.
The owner or manager of a place may correct its details, add a contact person or ask us to remove the entry. We may occasionally email the contact person to ask whether the details are still correct.
We may edit, decline, update or remove an event or attraction where information is inaccurate or outdated, or where we reasonably consider that publication could harm the public interest, our readers or the reputation of The Local Scope. Where practical, we will invite the submitter to correct a problem first.
Content, images and permission to publish
When you submit text, images, logos or other material, you confirm that you own it or have permission to share it. You also confirm that it does not infringe anyone else’s rights.
You keep ownership of your material. You give us a royalty-free, non-exclusive, and worldwide licence to publish it and to edit, crop or resize it. The licence also covers using it in our website, newsletter and social media posts about the listing, event or place. The licence lasts while the entry is published and for a reasonable time afterwards in content already published, such as past newsletters.
We resize uploaded photos and remove hidden information such as camera and location data. Please tell us who took a photo if they should be credited.
If you believe material on our site uses your work without permission, contact us at hello@thelocalscope.co.uk and we will review it promptly.
Updating, removing and reporting
- Update: use the “Update your listing” page. We email a single-use link to the address held for the entry. Changes are reviewed before they appear.
- Remove: the owner of a listing, event or attraction may ask us to remove it at any time, without giving a reason. We aim to do this within 5 working days.
- Report a problem: if an entry looks inaccurate, misleading or suspicious, email hello@thelocalscope.co.uk. We aim to reply within 5 working days.
Your personal data
We handle personal data in line with our Privacy Policy. In short:
- We publish only the details a listing, event or attraction needs, such as a business phone number or public email address.
- The name, email address and phone number of the person making a submission stay private. We use them only to manage the submission.
- We ask you to confirm your email address. Unconfirmed submissions are deleted after 7 days, and declined submissions are deleted promptly.
- Our newsletter is separate and optional. We send it only if you tick the box to receive it, and you can unsubscribe at any time.
Editorial decisions
Free and paid submissions are subject to review. We may decline material that is misleading, unlawful, unsafe, discriminatory, unrelated to the area we cover or inconsistent with these guidelines. We will distinguish paid promotion from independent editorial content. If a submission is declined, we will tell the submitter the reason, and they may contact us with corrections or additional context.
Our responsibility
We take care to keep information accurate. However, much of it is supplied by businesses, event organisers and other third parties, and details such as opening hours, prices and dates can change without notice. Information on The Local Scope is published without any guarantee of accuracy or completeness.
The editorial team is not responsible for errors or omissions in it, or for any loss caused by relying on it. Please check important details directly with the business, organiser or place.
We are not responsible for goods or services provided by businesses in the directory, or for events or places we list. To the extent permitted by law, we exclude liability for any indirect or consequential loss arising from the use of our directory. Nothing in these guidelines excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury arising from our negligence, or for any other liability that cannot be excluded by English law.
Changes and contact
We may update these guidelines. We will show the date of the latest version on this page and tell sponsors about any change that affects their package. These guidelines are governed by the law of England and Wales.
