What you can do

Castle Theatre is a popular arts and entertainment venue located in the centre of Wellingborough. It offers a wide range of performances throughout the year, including theatre productions, comedy, live music, dance, family shows, pantomimes and films. The main auditorium has over 500 seats, and the venue also has a smaller studio theatre, an exhibition and creative space, a bar and pre-show dining facilities. With hundreds of performances and events each year, Castle Theatre is an important part of the local cultural and entertainment scene.

The theatre has a strong focus on accessibility and aims to make visits comfortable for people with different access requirements. Public areas have step-free access, and the venue provides wheelchair spaces, companion seating, accessible toilets and Blue Badge parking close to the building. There are 12 wheelchair spaces in the main auditorium and at least two in the Studio Theatre. Assistance dogs are also welcome throughout the venue.

Castle Theatre also supports visitors with hidden disabilities and recognises the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower scheme. Visitors can ask staff for additional help and can borrow a Sunflower lanyard during their visit. The theatre also provides Visual Social Stories, which can help people understand what to expect before arriving.

For visitors who may find a standard theatre environment difficult, Castle Theatre offers relaxed and autism-friendly performances. These can include reduced sound levels, higher lighting levels in the auditorium, fewer announcements, no unnecessary music in the foyer and access to a quiet or breakout room. The venue also provides selected accessible performances, such as BSL interpreted, captioned and audio-described shows.

The theatre also operates an Access Register. People with access requirements who register may be eligible for concession tickets or a free companion ticket when assistance is required. Visitors with specific requirements are encouraged to contact the Box Office before their visit so that suitable seating and support can be arranged.
